The following rules have been designed to ensure fair play for all participants. Each player is expected to understand these rules prior to participation. Questions should be directed to Hydro Cup Staff.
Good sportsmanship is REQUIRED at all times. Coaches are held responsible for the conduct of themselves, their players, players' parents and spectators.
Maximum 8 players per team. A team must have a minimum of 3 field players. There are no goalkeepers in 4v4.
Depending on total teams, the tournament may combine age divisions. Teams will be notified prior to the tournament if groups are combined.
No color designation for home/away; however, home team is liable to change in case of color conflict. Home team is responsible for providing the game balls.
Hard casts must be wrapped and approved by referees. No jewelry allowed (earrings, necklaces, bracelets). Medical equipment (hearing aids, medical bracelets) is the only exception.
The playing field is 90 feet long by 60 feet wide.
Two 12-minute halves with a one-minute halftime. No timeouts. The game clock does not stop. Games tied after regulation end in a tie โ except in playoffs.
The scoring player must be on the attacking half of the field. Any goal from the defending half results in a goal kick for the opposing team.
Substitutions may be made during dead-ball situations, regardless of possession. Players must enter and exit at mid-field. No "on the fly" substitutions.
Players receiving a yellow card must be substituted immediately. They may return at the next substitution opportunity. Two yellows in one game = red card.
Ejected players are suspended for their next game (no exceptions). The team must finish the game a player short if the ejected player was on the field.
3-minute "golden goal" overtime. If still tied, a penalty shootout decides the winner. Coin toss decides who kicks first. Each team selects 4 shooters.
Players may defend in the goal box but cannot use hands or linger without the ball present. Goals scored inside the goal box result in a goal kick for the defending team.
Sliding is allowed only if no contact is made with another player. Contact during a slide results in a free kick from the spot of infraction.
Deliberate handling that denies a goal-scoring opportunity results in a penalty kick. All other unintentional hand balls are at the referee's discretion.
The ball is kicked in from the sideline (no throw-ins). Kick-offs may go in any direction. You cannot score directly from a kick-off or kick-in.
Win = 3 points ยท Tie = 1 point ยท Loss = 0 points. No bonus points awarded. Tiebreakers: Head-to-head โ Goal differential โ Goals conceded โ Goals scored.
Player safety is paramount. No refunds once a team has been accepted and paid. Closure of fields due to inclement weather is outside of Hydro Cup's control.
